The birth of a child is sweet. For Amy and Warren Taylor, the birth of a healthy baby boy brought joy beyond the miracle of birth.

Before he was even born, little Arbor faced a fight. The fragile infant developed during his mother’s treatment for breast cancer — including chemotherapy, blood transfusions and a mastectomy. His birth ended months of worry about how the treatments might affect him.

Amy’s breast cancer was first detected at a routine prenatal visit. “I told four people that first night and I was exhausted,” Warren recalls. Warren’s brother created a CaringBridge site so they had an easy way to update people.

Support for the fight

“When you’re fighting cancer, you can feel like you’re alone,” Amy explains. “Even when I couldn’t get out of bed, I could still type. The love from people reading the site, their prayers kept me going.”

The CaringBridge website also rallied supporters to bring meals, shovel sidewalks, and attend benefits. “I never really had any perception of people’s appetite for helping,” Amy says. “When you come to terms with that, it’s impossible not to believe and hope.”

A journey of gratitude

Because of her experience, Amy feels an increased responsibility to share the tough lessons she’s learned.

“I never want to take for granted the opportunity to share my heart and help others,” Amy says. “Part of that is communicating through the CaringBridge website.”

Amy and Warren are grateful for every day together and for their two healthy children. Reading Amy’s journal fills one with hope...and a belief in miracles.
